Meghan Crum

At her core, Meghan Crum is a storyteller. For as long as she can remember, she has been captivated by stories told from a wide range of people and places. From hard-hitting news to touching human interest articles, she has absorbed every word and learned to capture the stories around her.

Meghan spent more than half of her college career working at USC’s student newspaper, The Daily Gamecock. Rising to its senior staff after just one semester, Meghan led the news team to produce the stories that made the biggest impact across the university. She wrote more than 50 articles telling the stories of students on campus, and her work generated campus-wide buzz. Her articles alone brought in more than 43,000 readers.

Outside of class and student media, Meghan interned at South Carolina ad agency Chernoff Newman, where she split time between the public relations and account management departments conducting research and writing social media content for clients as well as creating PR plans for events. She also interned at generic pharmaceutical company Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, Inc., where she assisted in redesigning the company’s HR website to bring in the best talent possible. Her work in sharing individual employee stories has circulated on LinkedIn and through the company’s internal magazine. Last spring, she worked as a public relations and account management intern at Chernoff Newman, a South Carolina advertising agency. Now, she works remotely as a corporate communications intern at Cipla, a generic pharmaceutical company based in India with an office in Warren, New Jersey.

In the future, Meghan hopes to work at a PR firm where she can tell stories of change, growth and hope for clients and communities around the globe.

The university is no longer planning to build a parking garage for Greek Village and is now looking to construct a surface parking lot with about 300 spots for Greek students. The newly planned parking lot will be funded by a Greek Village Student Fee paid each semester by students involved in fraternities and sororities that have a

Food insecurity leaves USC students hungry

A third-year student was at Dance Marathon last semester when she weighed herself in the bathroom and realized she had dropped 17 pounds in two months after being unable to afford groceries. “When I stepped onto the scale and looked at the number, I was like, ‘Oh my God. I’m actually unhealthily small,’” Anna, a pseudonym for the student who asked to remain anonymous, said. Anna said she struggles to pay for school, textbooks, her sorority, rent and everyday necessities such as food. She has c

More than satire: Student behind French Drinking Ticket looks to create change at home

He may be the mind behind French Drinking Ticket, a parody Twitter account, but fifth-year political science student Regan Freeman has been doing more than just tweeting with a French accent. For the past year, Freeman has been working to help his hometown reflect on past racial tensions in the community. It is that work that brought him to the set of the Megyn Kelly's hour of "Today" on Monday, Oct. 1. Freeman gained notoriety on campus when he launched a parody Twitter account of the popular

March For Our Lives at USC to march on Statehouse, protest gun violence

Ellie Boan was on the phone with her mother when she heard her dog start barking at helicopters flying over her house, helicopters on their way to the high school five minutes from her house. There was an active shooter at that high school. She opened her laptop to the news and watched as teenagers from her hometown of Parkland, Florida, emerged from their high school covered in blood. "I watched men with enormous guns swarm the high school I pass every time I leave my house to go anywhere," th

Just this weekend, USC’s Dance Marathon celebrated its 20th anniversary by raising over one million dollars for the Child Life program at Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital. The first president of Dance Marathon, Simon Herrmann, returned to Dance Marathon for the first time since his graduation in 1999 and witnessed this milestone for the organization. “There was just a little group of us in the downstairs basement office with no phone and no windows, cranking away late in the night … and it’s

Retired veteran helps USC students
